The Parent Teacher Association (PTA) form Knockloughrim Primary School held the aptly titled ‘Great Balloon Race’ on Saturday 12th June 2010 at the school grounds. The balloon race was held on the back of a strongman competition that was taking place in the grounds that Saturday.
Entrants in the race included pupils, parents, locals and strongman spectators.
1100 balloons were released each tagged to the individual entrant. The winner is the balloon that has travelled furthest. To date 12 tags have been returned from the Manchester and Liverpool areas with many more expected. The winner is to be announced in the first week of September.
FP McCann sponsored the race with all profits from the event going directly toward benefiting the children at the local Knockloughrim Primary School.
