Works include installation of new Collision Protection Beams (CPB) which will also act as new parapet edge beams. The edge parapet units will comprise pre-cast reinforced concrete beams with a painted tubular steel handrail bolted to the top edge. The existing beams are to be removed and the new beams will be supported on new cill beams which will be located in carefully cut pockets in the existing masonry abutments. The cill beams will be secured in place by steel dowel bars cored and grouted into the abutment walls. The parapet beams will then be secured to the new cill beams with a bolted connection. Some minor patch repair to the existing deck is required comprising cutting back the existing surface concrete preparing the exposed steel encased beam and reinstating with a high strength repair mortar.
