Design and build of a 3.5km dual carriageway to bypass Toome and included the design and construction of a landmark bowstring arch bridge over the River Bann. The works required a variety of engineering solutions to deal with the soft alluvial silts with underlying peat layers. The earthworks included the use of band drains to accelerate consolidation under a staged embankment construction, a piled load transfer platform on the bridge approaches and an area of cut-to-fill where significant Mesolithic archaeological finds were discovered.
