Construction of approximately 270m of new carriageway linking Circular Road/ Nursery Road junction to the existing Frederick Street/ Mill Street/ John Street roundabout.
The A20 Frederick Street Link scheme is an £860,000 contract for the construction of a new 0.27km carriageway linking Nursery Road to Mill Street roundabout in Newtownards. The scheme included drainage, fencing, alterations to existing utility equipment and a new signalised junction. A contractor designed reinforced concrete box culvert of approximately 100m was supplied by FP McCann’s Knockloughrim pre-cast factory, and a total of 43nr 2m long box sections were produced. They were installed on site with a 50t mobile crane during a temporary diversion of the existing stream. The link road was opened to the public in November 2007, with one member of the DRD stating “It’s great for the development of this historic town, as it will ease the troubled congestion problems the public deal with on a daily basis”
