J. Breheny Adopts DN 1800 Easi-Base System on Clacton Development

J.Breheny Contractors Ltd, one of the largest independent ground works and civil engineering contractors in the South East has adopted the FP McCann DN 1800  Easi-Base system for the storm drainage on a new housing scheme in Clacton-on-Sea, Essex.

Working for Bloor Homes on roads, sewers and 278 works, Breheny will be installing a total of around 60 WRc approved Easi-Base units on the Blenheim Gate development.   30 DN 1200 polypropylene lined Easi-Base units, 10 DN 1500 Easi-Bases and 18 of the larger DN 1800's will form part of the foul and storm water system on the site which once completed will contain some 200 houses.

The DN 1800 precast concrete manhole base is factory produced as a monolithic unit incorporating a standard manhole tongue and groove joint for connection with either a standard chamber ring or the new 130mm wide wall chamber. Unlike the polypropylene lined DN1200 Easi-Base, the benching and channelling of the 1800 unit is formed in concrete as part of the casting process. The DN1800 manhole base will accommodate pipe sizes up to DN 750 and dependant on the pipe size and number of inlets, weighs between 5 and 10 tonnes.

Speed, ease of build and the resulting increased site productivity, is a major benefit on offer from the DN 1800 Easi-Base. From base to cover slab and backfill, a typical 3 metre completed unit can be in place and secure in under 90 minutes.  Traditional methods of chamber construction involving wet concrete and mortar trades can take up to 40 hours.
