FP McCann awarded Carrickfergus Public Realm

Description:            
The works involves refurbishment of Carrickfergus Town Centre with a mixture of Granite and Caithness Stone paving with the main thoroughfare on High Street resurfaced in Asphalt surface course. A section of retaining wall is to be provided in Market Place and the subway under Marine Highway is to be filled in as part of the works along with provision of a new puffin crossing on Marine Highway. Ancillary works include;
• Drainage
• Kerbing
• Road markings
• Road signs
• Street furniture provision
• Landscaping

The following service utilities will be affected by the scheme: Street Lighting, NIE, British Telecom, Phoenix Gas and NI Water.

At the scheme announcement the Mayor of Carrickfergus Borough Council Alderman Jim McClurg said: ”I am delighted that FP McCann has been appointed contractor and that work is finally starting to improve the streetscape of Carrickfergus.  The scheme will bring a significant uplift to the traditional town centre allowing greater access for pedestrians and a much more aesthetically-pleasing environment for businesses, visitors and shoppers.  I also look forward to watching the scheme unfold and to seeing the fruition of everyone’s efforts later in the year when we will have a dramatically improved traditional town centre to be proud of once more.”
