1500mm Pipes overcome Drainage challenge on Coldstream Housing Development

Ground worker A.S Crawford, working for Hudson Homes on a current housing site in Coldstream, on the outskirts of the Scottish Borders, were recently faced with the challenging installation of 1500mm pipe.

To meet the drainage specification, pipes were required to have a cast in dry weather channel at a 45 degree angle, to act as a retention tank in the foul drainage for the site.  Moulding the channel in situ once the pipes had been laid was considered, although physically achieving this would have proven difficult.  A.S Crawford decided to speak to FP McCann to find a joint solution.

To achieve a dry weather channel, FP McCann fabricated new moulds to match the required shape and were subsequently cast into each of the 1500mm pipes at their Alnwick facility.  By adopting the Easi-Flex Anchor fixing system, pipes were supplied with a definite fixed invert and soffit, ensuring the match was excellent at each joint.  The installation of the pipes was aided by the chain system which pulls each pipe into the next in the joining process.

Alistair Crawford, A.S Crawford Managing Director commented “FP McCann were extremely flexible in their approach to finding a solution to the challenging drainage requirements on this project.  The Easi-Flex Anchor system made life very easy for the team on-site, each pipe matched perfectly during installation which when combined with the lifting system in place, made this a highly efficient, recommended solution to pipe installation.”

FP McCann offers a full range of precast concrete flexible jointed pipes from DN225 to DN2400. Full details can be found on the Drainage section of our website.
