FP McCann DN2100 Pipes To Alleviate Flooding in Westerhope, Newcastle -upon- Tyne

Northumbrian Water Ltd (NWL) are investing up to £0.5 million to remove properties in North Avenue, Westerhope from the sewer flooding register. Major sewerage replacement and maintenance works commenced in November 2011 as part of the 10 year £1.5 billion AMP 5 investment programme.

AMP 5 framework contractor Seymour’s, one of the North East's major civil engineers, have been appointed to undertake the 11 week programme of works.  The scheme involves installing some 160 metres of main sewer pipes comprising 119 metres of DN 2100 and 37 metres of DN1500 Easi-Flex standard pipes. The pipes are to be laid 4 metres and 3 metres deep respectively. Incorporated in the works, are two precast concrete manholes and two reinforced concrete inspection chambers.

Once completed, the increased sewer capacity will remove the flood risk for residents living in North Avenue and reduce the pressure on the area's drainage network.

John Sheridan, FP McCann's North East ASM comments, "We are delivering between one and two loads of pipes per day to this contract. The DN 2100 is the largest standard pipe we manufacture with each individual unit weighing in excess of 9 tonnes! We have an excellent working relationship with Seymour Civil Engineering and Keyline, York depot, who the pipes have been procured through and I am very optimistic about our future involvement in similar AMP 5 work."

Note.
DN 2100 precast concrete drainage pipes have a 35% lower carbon 'cradle-to-grave' footprint than their plastic equivalent. The CPSA Carbon Study has been accredited by Carbon specialist Carbon Clear Ltd to the latest PAS 2050 carbon accounting procedures.
