• Description: The project will be an important economic catalyst for Portrush encouraging private sector investment and helping to create a more vibrant and dynamic tourist resort
It will open up the area as a small town square and will include:
o Resurfacing of footpaths and public square with stone paving
o Provision of new granite kerbing
o Creation of feature viewing platform area providing panoramic views across West Bay
o Street lighting
o Feature Lighting inspired by the masts of ships, and introduced into seating and raised edges to provide colour and interest
o Street Furniture suitable for a coastal environment
o Drainage
o Sculptures
o Associated planters and planting including hardy grasses that make reference to the former dune landsacpe
At The scheme announcement the Department of Social Development Minister, Nelson McCauseland said “I welcome the start of work to deliver this significant environmental improvement scheme in Portrush. This scheme will not only improve the area around Station Square but will provide a welcome boost to the whole town. This scheme will complement the improvement scheme on the East Strand, which I officially opened with Arlene Foster in July. This scheme will make an important contribution to the process of regenerating Portrush to ensure it remains as one of Northern Irelands leading seaside resorts."
