FP McCann is nearing completion of precast concrete 'C' series cable trough supplies to a £2 million re-signalling contract on 17 miles of dual track between Stourbridge and Hartlebury in North Worcestershire. Civil engineering contractor VGC and main framework contractor to Network Rail, Atkins, are partners on the scheme which is scheduled for completion in August 2012. The main element of the programme is the upgrading of the old semaphore wire and pulley signalling system with 34 new automated signals along the route. The 'C' concrete troughs will carry the power and communication cables.
Already a major supplier to Network Rail with over 30 different types of 'C' type cable protection troughs from its Telford plant, FP McCann has delivered a total of 15,000 straight troughs and lids to the contract comprising mainly C1/9, C1/8 and C1/7 units and some 350 transition and 'Tee' junction box units. The job represents one of McCann's largest single scheme contracts, with the troughs being procured through the recently formed Burden Rail a specialist division of the Burden Group.
The main engineering track work to be completed in June also includes the renewal of three level crossings and the decommissioning of the four signal boxes along the route. The future signalling system will be centrally controlled from Birmingham.

FP McCann is a Link Up (Certificate No. 10844-25579/75761) and Network Rail Supply Line approved company (NR/PS/TEL 00013 and FTN/HQ/SP/P/0001) Certificate No. PA05/01429.
