Project: North Foreshore Infrastructure Project
Client: Belfast City Council
The creation of a world-class Environmental Resource Park is the first step in the development of the 340 acre Giant’s Park - the biggest regeneration site in Belfast. The £9.5 million scheme, on the north foreshore of Belfast Lough, will act as an innovative ‘cleantech’ business cluster, attracting companies working in renewable energy, solar power, recycling and other environmental technologies which offer solutions to global issues. The Cleantech Hub is just the first step in developing Giant’s Park. Planning permission has also been granted for a film studio complex, led by Belfast Harbour, on a further seven acres of the site.
Belfast City Council aims to attract local, national and international investors to the resource park, which could potentially create up to 400 green collar jobs and deliver other physical, social and economic benefits for Northern Ireland.
The project is jointly funded by Belfast City Council (£3.5 million), as part of its city-wide Investment Programme, Invest Northern Ireland (£2 million) and the European Regional Development Fund, under the European Sustainable Competitiveness Programme for Northern Ireland (£4 million). The Infrastructure works include:
