Rathlin Island – ABN2 Contract June 2005

Rathlin Island – ABN2 Contract June 2005

Rathlin Island Surface Dressing

  Rathlin Island Surface Dressing

Rathlin Island, Northern Ireland

This scheme involved preparatory works and resurfacing works on Rathlin Island in June 2009 through the ABN2 Term Contract to the value of £148k and was completed over the course of 11 working days. The works involved excavating the existing surface, where required, regulating with stone blinding and laying a bitmac surface course. We utilized local labour for the preparatory works and chartered a ferry from the Arranmore Ferry Company as well as using the existing Rathlin Island Ferry Company to transport our labour, plant and materials to site.

The works involved substantial planning with DRD and the ferry companies to program 9 returns crossing per day. The areas surfaced will be surface dressed by this company under our SDN2 Surface Dressing Contract in 2010 season and the excellent relationships forged with DRD, the ferry companies and local residents should ensure the smooth completion of our next visit to the island.
